Yesterday, I went to Le Cordon Bleu. In case you do not know what that is, it is probably the best cooking school there is, and the place Julia Child went to learn to cook. We took a mother - daughter class together, in French but translated into English. There were supposed to be four families, but only one other group came, a mother and a girl my age from the United States. We finally were brought upstairs. There we met the Chef, assistants, and translator, and we started working. The first thing we made was a plain circle of sponge cake. We then made a pastry cream (which I put too much vanilla in) and finally cut up some strawberries. When everything was ready, we assembled it in a metal circle with some thing that looked like whipped topping and put it in a refrigerator. When it came out, we torched the top making it look like desserts you would see in a expensive pastry shop, and then removed the metal circle. Above is the final result of my cake. They let us keep the aprons and hand towels that we used, and we even got a certificate. We each made a cake, so we got to eat my mom's with some guests that night, but I 'm saving mine for when a friend visits. Overall, a fun experience.
Wonderful story! I hope you will be able to make us a cake when you return or perhaps tell us all how to make our own cake.

Wow! It sounds wonderful!
ReplyDeleteYour photos are terrific, as well as your Cordon Bleu experience. now you will have to tell us how it tasted.
ReplyDeleteClearly you are having the experience of a lifetime, and we all can take vicarious pleasure.
Love from Jane and Grandpa.
Congrats on the cake! That might be nicer than any cake I've made. I will, however, send you my recipe for "Anarchy Cake" which you can serve to your mom and dad when you hit your rebellious streak (if that ever happens, of course). Its a GREAT cake -- as it should be with such a name. (:
