This will be a double post, because I missed two days, and I will do another post later today.
Two days ago, we went to Luxembourg Gardens to eat lunch with the Stanford students. The Luxembourg Gardens have a large variety of things for younger kids to do, like ride on the merry-go-round, or play on the huge playground (which you have to pay to get into). When we all ate, we headed across the park, and along our way, we found a large fountain with kids sailing mini sail boats in it, which they rented from a man at the edge of the fountain. I decided to rent one, and I happily pushed the small boat around. After sailing, we made a couple stops, one of which was at a wonderful crepe store, which, from experience, has the best butter and sugar crepes ever. Then we rode the metro home, and I stayed up until our guest came--Lisa, who is my aunt's sister in law. That pretty much gave me a good night's sleep. Going to bed at twelve with jet lag: not advised.
The next day, I went to a bird and flower market with Lisa and mom. They had the most incredible birds there. Many different noises and colors burst from behind cages. My favorites were the zebra finches. I have wanted one forever, but I've never had one. The sad part is, the birds have very little cage space. There were about thirty birds in one cage, and the cage was only about 9" x 9" x 12" so they have no space to move. Then we went to the candy shop again. We tried to find the last of my school books, but the bookstore was closed, so we headed back home, where we had duck for dinner, which happens to be very good. I still miss regular American dinners, though most of our dinners tend to be something like them. I miss home!
Great photo! Sorry to hear about the crowded birds; sounds like their owners are cruel.
ReplyDeleteGood luck in school today; I miss you, too.
Love,
Your Dad
Lauren, you are amazing! I had forgotten how to get your blog, but may have it now.
ReplyDeleteI've printed and saved you notes to pass around, and to study tonight when I get settled.
Poor birds all cramped up in a small space the owners should give better care to the animals. Sailing sailboats sound like fun I wish I could do that.
ReplyDeleteIf you think the crepes you ate at the crepe store were the best ever, it is only because you have not tasted Lisa's (Lisa being your mother's sister-in-law's sister-in-law, and your current house guest)! As you probably know, Lisa started her own crepe business, Vermont Crepe and Waffle. You can check out her web-site:

(Don't worry, Lisa, I will not charge you for this publicity.)
That sounds really interesting. They should have mini sailboats around the bay! I would relly like that. Crepes sound soooo good right now!!!!! THe stores in France sound really interesting.
ReplyDeleteMaybe our families could go together one time.
I miss you soooooo much!
